“PLANT GENOME ORGANIZATION: REPETITIVE DNA ELEMENTS AND CENTROMERE BIOLOGY”

At the event organized by the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) on Friday, January 9, 2026, postdoctoral researcher Dr. Sevim Döndü Kara Öztürk from Çukurova University participated as a speaker. In her presentation titled “Plant Genome Organization: Repetitive DNA Elements and Centromere Biology,” our guest speaker provided detailed information on the molecular foundations of genome organization, the biological significance of repetitive DNA sequences, and the critical role of centromere structure in plant genetics and breeding studies.

“MICRORNAS: MOLECULAR ARCHITECTS SHAPING THE FUTURE OF PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY”

At the event organized by the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Dr. Bilgin Candar Çakır participated as a speaker. In his presentation titled “MicroRNAs: Molecular Architects Shaping the Future of Plant Biotechnology,” Dr. Bilgin Candar Çakır shared detailed information on the role of microRNAs, particularly in tomatoes, in regulating gene expression in plants, molecular responses to environmental factors, especially drought stress, and the future of MicroRNA-based approaches in plant biotechnology.

ORIENTATION AND INTRODUCTORY MEETING AT THE DEPARTMENT OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETICS

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) held an orientation and introductory meeting with newly enrolled students of the 2025-2026 Academic Year on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 11.00 in the Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan Seminar Hall. During the meeting where the department’s academic staff were introduced, Assist. Prof. Burcu Ayhan Şahin, Deputy Head of the Department, delivered a detailed presentation on course selection, the use of CATS, regulations, and university life.

ASSIST. PROF. KÜBRA TELLİ'S TUBITAK-1001 SUCCESS

The research project “Investigation of Preclinical Therapeutic Effects of Peptides Targeted to the NOTCH1 NRR Region in the Treatment of T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL) in In Vitro and In Vivo Models)”, led by Assist. Prof. Kübra Telli, a faculty member in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, has been awarded 2.4 million TL in funding under TÜBİTAK-1001.

PROF. DR. ATİLLA ÖZALPAN COMMEMORATED ON THE 13TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS PASSING

Our esteemed Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan, Founding Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN), was commemorated on the 13th anniversary of his passing with a panel titled “Rising of Our Age: Molecular Biology and Artificial Intelligence” on Friday, March 14, 2025, in the Önder Öztunalı Seminar Hall at the Bakırköy campus Ataköy building.

IKU MOBIGEN RECEIVED TQD QUALIFICATION

Istanbul Kültür University (IKU) Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) was found eligible for the Undergraduate Diploma Qualification in the Turkish Qualifications Database (TQD), which was developed to make information on all qualifications (such as diplomas, certificates, vocational qualification certificates) in our country accessible to the national and international public, and entered into the Qualifications Database as of May 9, 2024.
