MOBİGEN STUDENTS ACCEPTED TO TÜBİTAK

The project titled “The effect of fatty acid metabolism on epithelial-mesenchymal transition mechanism and apoptotic cell death in pancreatic cancer cells with palbociclib and celastrol” of the 3rd year students Setenay Delioğlu and Zehra Giritlioğlu from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN), under the supervision of Research Assistant Dr. Özge Rencüzoğulları, accepted within the scope of the second term of 2020 of Tübitak’s 2209A The University Students Research Projects Support Program.

"SEARCHING FOR NEW BIOMARKERS USING PROTEOMICS: A CASE STUDY ON BREAST CANCER"

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) organized an e-seminar titled “Searching New Biomarkers Using Proteomics Tools: A Case Study on Breast Cancer” on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine Faculty Member Murat Kasap spoke at the event; MOBIGEN faculty members, students and graduates, as well as academicians from various universities in Turkey, working in the field, also attended. Alp Ayan was the moderator of the seminar, which was conducted over CATS.

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) organized a webinar titled "Cancer-Nervous System Relations" on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. MOBIGEN faculty members, students and alumni, as well as academicians from various universities in Turkey also attended the event, in which Prof. Dr. Mustafa Djamgoz (Imperial College London) participated as a speaker. MOBIGEN faculty member Seyhan Altun was the moderator of the event held on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

“LEVERAGING 3D IN VITRO MODELS FOR PERSONALIZED CANSER TREATMENT”

Molecular Biology and Genetics Department organized an e-seminar titled “Leveraging 3D in vitro Models for Personalized Canser Treatment” on Friday, March 19, 2021. Dr. Nazende Gül Avcı (Deciduous Therapeutics) participated as a speaker. At the seminar, which was held over CATS with the participation of our students and alumni, up-to-date sharing was made on the latest techniques developed in cancer treatments, the rate of which is increasing day by day.

IKU ASIMOV TECHNOLOGY CLUB - ASIMOV-X ROCKET TEAM

Asimov Technology Club, established on November 9, 2020 within the constitution of Istanbul Kültür University, is a student club that produces projects based on engineering and aims to participate in national and international competitions with the projects it produces. For this purpose, a rocket team was established to participate in the "Rocket Competition" conducted by TEKNOFEST on November 20, 2020. The Project and Club Consultant of the Rocket Team is Prof. Dr. Ertuğrul Eriş, a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics organized a webinar titled "Covid-19 and New Generation Biotechnological Vaccines" on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Assist. Prof. Cihan Taştan from Üsküdar University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics attended the event which held on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application as a speaker. In the seminar attended by our students and graduates, updated information on the latest status of vaccines developed against the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, which has affected the whole world, was shared.

"NEW CORONAVIRUS VARIANTS ARE MORE CONTAGIOUS"

Along with the data on COVID-19 cases, the mutation process and variant concepts of the virus continue to arouse public interest. Assoc. Prof. Pınar Obakan Yerlikaya, an academic at IKU Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, said that COVID-19, which is called SARS-COV-2 in the literature, undergoes mutations in order to bind to human cells more tightly and reproduce more easily.

The project team including Hasibe Simay Karabunar, one of the students of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department, was entitled to receive support for Acıbadem University Incubation Center Pre-Incubation with the wheelchair and application designed to facilitate the lives of individuals with SMA in the "Acıbadem University Solution Awareness SMA Biodesign" competition. We congratulate our student and wish her continued success.

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics organized an event titled "Creating a CV and Writing a Motivation Letter" on Thursday, January 07, 2021. Students and alumni also attended the seminar, where the Deputy Head of the Kültür Point Unit, Mücella Ezgin, was the speaker. In the event, the points that should be taken into consideration while preparing a resume were discussed, and what should be done to get to know oneself better and how to emphasize strengths were discussed.
