Four TÜBİTAK 2209A applications for the second semester of 2021, in which the students of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics Kerem Yasin Yıldızhan, Yiğit Efe Aydın, Begum Risha Güler, Muhammet Dereci, Simay Karaburnar, Aleyna Ekinci, Ebru Kılıççeker, Başak Tuana Okyay and Kübra Nur Bayraktaroğlu were the coordinators and Assist. Prof. Alp Ayan, Assist. Prof. Özge Rencüzoğulları, Res. Assist. Dr. Sinan Meriç and Res. Assist. Tamer Gümüş were the advisors, were accepted.

“MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETIC APPROACHES TO PLANTS AND BIOTIC STRESS FACTORS” CONFERENCE

Dr. Saber Delpasand Kabbazi from Karadeniz Technical University attended as a speaker at the conference titled "Molecular Biology and Genetic Approaches to Plants and Biotic Stress Factors" organized by the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. At the event, a comprehensive presentation was made about the current genetic approaches to counter biotic stresses in plants as well as, methods of gene transfer in plants.

IKU MOBIGEN CELEBRATED 25 APRIL WORLD DNA DAY

“DNA Day”, which is celebrated on April 25 every year, was celebrated this year with events organized in cooperation with the Molecular Biology and Genetics Club of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics and the IEEE Club. As part of the event, Günseli Bayram Akçapınar from Acıbadem University Department of Medical Biotechnology made a presentation titled "The Black Lady of DNA: Rosalind Franklin". In addition, MOBIGEN students contributed to raising awareness about the importance of DNA Day with DNA models, posters, presentations and foods with DNA figures they prepared.

“THE ROLE OF BIOTECHNOLOGY IN PROTECTION AND TREATMENT”

The seminar titled "The Role of Biotechnology in Protection and Treatment" organized by the Department Molecular Biology and Genetics on Wednesday, 13 April 2022, made a difference with drug and vaccine studies in the COVID-19 era, Biotechnology Quality Control Manager Dr Başak Özata and Biotechnology Vaccine Project Coordinator MSc. Nilgün Özdural attended as speakers.

“PROJECT TO TREATMENT (SMA AND CRISPR GENE THERAPY)”

In the event held in Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan Seminar Hall on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, in cooperation with the Molecular Biology and Genetics Club and the IEEE Club; Enes Bal, a 2020 graduate of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN), presented his presentation titled "From Project to Treatment (SMA and CRISPR Gene Therapy)".

"ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETICS" SEMINAR

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics organized a seminar titled "Artificial Intelligence in Molecular Biology and Genetics" with Assoc. Prof. Ozan Karadağlı from Mimar Sinan University, Department of Statistics, Lecturer Ali Mertcan Köse from Haliç University and Lecturer Neslihan Gökmen from Koç University as speakers. At the event held on Thursday, March 17, 2022, Lecturer Ali Mertcan Köse gave detailed information about deep and machine learning applications and off-target predictions in CRISPR/Cas9 system gene editing.

The Founding Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN), our valuable teacher Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan, was commemorated with an event held on the 10th anniversary of his passing. Prof. Dr. Ali Demirsoy, one of the academicians of Hacettepe University, attended the event held on Wednesday, March 9, with his speech titled “Bio-Geological Perspective on Global Warming”. “NEUROPSYCHOLOGIC EVALUATION TESTS”

Molecular Biology and Genetics Club organized a seminar on January 24, 2022. Assoc. Prof. Nurcan Orhan and Res. Assist. Hande Yüceer from Istanbul University Aziz Sancar Institute of Experimental Medicine attended as speakers to the seminar which was carried out via CATS. Molecular Biology and Genetics Club students were the moderators of the seminar, in which the academic staff, students and graduates of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics took part.
