Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics

A seminar titled "An Innovative Approach to Cancer Research: Synthesis of Three-Dimensional Spheroid Cell Cultures with Zebrafish Models" was organized by the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.  Participating in the event as a speaker, Dr.  Kübra Telli made a in depth presentation on the current cancer research and cell culture studies carried out in Zebrafish, used as a model organism in the field of molecular biology and genetics.

A conference titled "Science-You" was organized by the Molecular Biology and Genetics Club to introduce students to multidisciplinary working areas. Prof. Dr. Meral Yüksel from Marmara University, Prof. Dr. Günnur Deniz from Istanbul University, Prof. Dr. Soner Doğan from Yeditepe University and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tarık Baykal from Acıbadem University attended the event held at Önder Öztunalı Conference Hall on Friday, May 10, as speakers. Guest speakers made their presentations at the event, which started with the opening speeches of Res.Assist.

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics held a seminar titled “A Molecular Biologist on the Entrepreneurship Journey” on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Cellestetix Genetic Consultancy R&D and Biotechnology Inc. Founder Dr. Merve Yıldırım Canpolat, who participated in the event as a speaker, gave detailed information about the process of becoming an entrepreneur in Türkiye and in the world, investor support, its advantages and disadvantages.

Three "TUBITAK 2209-A" project applications of our Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) students and our advisors were entitled to be supported within the scope of the 2nd semester of 2023. We congratulate our students and advisors and wish them continued success.

1) The project titled "Comparison of Imidazolinone (IMI) Herbicide Tolerant Varieties with Turkish Paddy Varieties According to Acetolactate Synthase Gene Expression Profiles" will be conducted by Ece Sezerler and Eylül Koç (Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Alp Ayan).

Our postgraduate student Dilara Kazancı from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics participated in the "4th International Aegean Scientific Research Symposium" with an oral presentation titled "Development of a gemcitabine-resistant pancreatic cancer cell line and its examination in three-dimensional cell forms", which includes the results of her thesis study conducted under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Özge Rencüzoğulları. Our student's work was accepted as a full text paper in the congress booklet.

A presentation, explaining the activities of TTO to the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBİGEN), was made by İKÜ Technology Transfer Office Manager Cüneyt Genç, TTO Deputy Director Alparslan Güzey, University-Industry Cooperation Expert Dr.

The Founding Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBİGEN), our esteemed teacher Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan was commemorated with the event held on the 12th year of his passing away. The event, which was held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, was attended by two of the previous rectors of our university, Member of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr Tamer Koçel and Prof. Dr Dursun Koçer, Head of the Department of Physics, with their speeches titled "An Organization Story: Molecular Biology and Genetics". 

The project titled "Determination of DNA Methylation Profiles of Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr] Boron Transport Genes under Boron Stress", led by Assist. Prof. Sinan Meriç from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBİGEN), was deemed entitled to receive funds with the call code 223Z207 as a part of the "TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Module".  We congratulate the IKU faculty member and wish them further success in their project.

Ayşe Simay Metin, our post-graduate student from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, participated in the 3rd International Congress on Scientific Advances (ICONSAD'23) with an oral presentation titled "Investigation of the Effect of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles in A-498 Renal Cell Carcinoma Cell Line with Increased STAT5 Expression", which includes the results of her thesis study conducted under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Özge Rencüzoğulları. We congratulate our advisor and our student and wish them continued success.
