The Founding Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN), our valuable teacher Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan, was commemorated with an event held on the 10th anniversary of his passing. Molecular Biology and Genetics Club organized a seminar on January 24, 2022. Assoc. Prof. Nurcan Orhan and Res. Assist. Hande Yüceer from Istanbul University Aziz Sancar Institute of Experimental Medicine attended as speakers to the seminar which was carried out via CATS. Molecular Biology and Genetics Club students were the moderators of the seminar, in which the academic staff, students and graduates of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics took part.

DEPARTMENT OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETICS STUDENTS MADE POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Under the leadership of Assist. Prof. Özge Rencüzoğulları, Res. Assist. Dr. Burcu Ayhan Şahin and Res. Assist. Pelin Özkazan Kılbaş; Graduate students Zeynep Gülşah Sonalp, undergraduate students Zehra Giritlioğlu and Setanay Şimal Delioğlu attended the “The Fifth Congress of The Serbian Associationnc for Caer Research with international participation: Translational Potential of Cancer Research in Serbia”congress held online on Friday, December 3, 2021. They participated in the presentation of four posters containing their work in MOBIGEN Molecular Cancer Research Laboratories.

RES. ASSIST. DR. ÖZGE RENCÜZOĞULLARI, PRESENTED HER POSTER PRESENTATION

Res. Assist. Dr. Özge Rencüzoğulları, one of the academics of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, awarded with “Young Scientist- FEBS Bursary Awardee” at the 45th International FEBS Molecules of Life: Towards New Horizons” congress, by presenting the poster titled “miR-150 is a fine tunning mediator for the regulation of metastatic potential of MiaPaCa-2 pancreatic cancer cells.”

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics organized a webinar titled "Data Analysis and Mining in Linux Terminal" on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Assist. Prof. Alper Yılmaz, an academic at Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Chemistry and Metallurgy, Department of Bioengineering attended the event as a speaker. MOBİGEN STUDENTS ACCEPTED TO TÜBİTAK

The project titled “The effect of fatty acid metabolism on epithelial-mesenchymal transition mechanism and apoptotic cell death in pancreatic cancer cells with palbociclib and celastrol” of the 3rd year students Setenay Delioğlu and Zehra Giritlioğlu from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN), under the supervision of Research Assistant Dr. Özge Rencüzoğulları, accepted within the scope of the second term of 2020 of Tübitak’s 2209A The University Students Research Projects Support Program.

"SEARCHING FOR NEW BIOMARKERS USING PROTEOMICS: A CASE STUDY ON BREAST CANCER"

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) organized an e-seminar titled “Searching New Biomarkers Using Proteomics Tools: A Case Study on Breast Cancer” on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine Faculty Member Murat Kasap spoke at the event; MOBIGEN faculty members, students and graduates, as well as academicians from various universities in Turkey, working in the field, also attended. Alp Ayan was the moderator of the seminar, which was conducted over CATS.

"CANCER-NERVOUS SYSTEM RELATIONSHIPS"

Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN) organized a webinar titled "Cancer-Nervous System Relations" on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. MOBIGEN faculty members, students and alumni, as well as academicians from various universities in Turkey also attended the event, in which Prof. Dr. Mustafa Djamgoz (Imperial College London) participated as a speaker. MOBIGEN faculty member Seyhan Altun was the moderator of the event held on Adobe Connect Virtual Classroom Application.

“LEVERAGING 3D IN VITRO MODELS FOR PERSONALIZED CANSER TREATMENT”

Molecular Biology and Genetics Department organized an e-seminar titled “Leveraging 3D in vitro Models for Personalized Canser Treatment” on Friday, March 19, 2021. Dr. Nazende Gül Avcı (Deciduous Therapeutics) participated as a speaker. At the seminar, which was held over CATS with the participation of our students and alumni, up-to-date sharing was made on the latest techniques developed in cancer treatments, the rate of which is increasing day by day.
