Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MOBIGEN), welcomed Prof. Dr. Rui Fausto from the University of Coimbra, Portugal (The University of Coimbra) to our university. At the event held at Prof. Dr. Atilla Özalpan Seminar Hall on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, Prof. Dr. Fausto presented their presentation titled “Magic Wands for Controlling Molecular Structure: Beyond the Chemical Reactivity Paradigms”. With more than 500 scientific publications and more than 10 thousand references in their field of research, Prof. Dr. Rui Fausto explained advanced methods used to initiate and investigate conformational changes in organic molecules associated with different scientific fields, including biochemistry and molecular biology. Dr. Fausto detailed the mechanisms of vibrational excitation and quantum mechanical tunnelling in highly selective molecular structure changes studied under low temperature matrix isolation conditions by infrared spectroscopy. The seminar was attended by IKU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gülce Öğrüç Ildız, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Dr. Çimen Atak, the Department of MOBIGEN and the department of Physics faculty and students.
